Welcome To Your Death

I attended the mass last Sunday, March 16, 2008, along with my Sister and our parents. It was a Palm Sunday so our Father agreed to come. We left my son at home since he's still asleep and my cousin's not coming with us and volunteered she'll babysit for two hours.

Anyway, what I'm blogging today is not to brag about attending the mass. It's about the Priest's homily. After the Gospel reading, he joked around, saying "Undangon na nato ang Gospel Reading kay lain na inyung tinan-awan sa ako-a" (Let's stop the Gospel Reading since you're all looking at me with fierce eyes already) even though we all know it was really the end of the Gospel. But he made that remark to maintain our consciousness (Come on! A lot of people still has the habit of sleeping in the House of God, having a mass of 5:30am. Added to that, people went there around 4:30am to have their seat. Even with that early schedule, more people are attending the First Mass.)

Before my intro become spaghetti meatballs, let's go on with the root of the blog. I know that the message of the homily is that we are welcoming Jesus. Well, that's the main reason of Palm Sunday, the remake of Jesus' arrival to Jerusalem, and the people are welcoming him, waving palms. (Another remark added by the Priest: If Jesus is to live this era, we won't be welcoming him with palms, but with flaglets...hehehe...soooooo true!) But the Priest mentioned on his introduction to his homily, Jesus got a lot of people welcoming him, rejoicing his arrival, but the same number of people were shouting in the end "Crucify him!!!" By that phrase, I came to a realization.

What is that? My mind was opened to the reality that the trait is not innately for Filipinos, but all the people in the world. I was looking at the political scheme of the Philippines. We vote someone, look for that one's slightest mistake, then worsen the issue, and eventually, asking that someone to resign. Get it? Like the people in Jerusalem who welcomed Jesus to his own death, we are welcoming the leaders to their living hell. I realize that we share the same values as those people who wanted to crucify Jesus. Figuratively, we are shouting "Crucify him" to the leaders. The difference of the modern time is, we don't have our very own Pontius Pilate, who washed his hands after at least convincing us that we should not crucify "him". Everybody is against the leaders. There are some (maybe a lot) that are like Pontius Pilate's wife who knows that Jesus doesn't have a sin at all. But like his wife, these "some" can't be heard of against milllions of people revolting to "crucify" our leader. (But don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these leaders are completely innocent. My point is, why not support the good things? They sure did something for our improvement. Besides, they are just there for 6 years, after that, they're done.)

*tsk *tsk
We have great democratic power that people seem to abuse. Poor leaders. Poor country.
